  • Very powerful action on Roosevelt Avenue! - would love to see more women step forward and repeat this performance with you. Imagine dozen (s) or more women: Asian, Latina, Black, White - all represented. All giving voice for women enslaved in buildings right there on the avenue. The 'Chica' text is harrowing and horrid because it is too true. Thank you Deborah for your service, for this part of your art practice. You are a warrior. H.A.

  • Deb, you are a warrior. This intervention is interesting a powerful. I live in Jackson Heights too, and not only had I never heard of "Chica Cards" before, but I did not realize our neighborhood is known for sex-trafficking! Talk about sticking your head in the sand! Of course, it doesn't seem that surprising when I think about it, but that's why your piece was a real eye-opener for me -- considering how easy it is to ignore it, brush it away, to the point where it hasn't even landed in your consciousness. I love your creative way of raising awareness. Quite a feat to be appealing and horrifying at once! The cards and mask are fantastic and creepy and brave. Great job, and thank you for all the swirling thoughts. J.K.
